(03) The studio

A small team that designs, details and stays on site.

Studio Meera Iyer is a Chennai practice of nine architects and designers. Since 2009 we have completed 86 projects, from compact urban homes to large commercial campuses.

Meera trained in Chennai and Ahmedabad and worked with two leading firms before founding the studio. She still leads every concept presentation and visits each site personally during construction. We believe good architecture is tested twice: once on paper and once in the monsoon.

(04) Design process

A clear process, with decisions made at the right time.

Every project follows five stages. You always know what is being decided, what it will cost and what comes next.

  1. 01

    Brief & site study

    2 weeks

    Site visit, measured survey, climate and regulation review, and a written brief agreed with you.

  2. 02

    Concept design

    4 weeks

    Two or three spatial ideas explored through plans, sections and models. You choose the direction.

  3. 03

    Design development

    6 weeks

    Structure, services, materials and budget are co-ordinated. Interiors and landscape are resolved.

  4. 04

    Detailing & approvals

    6 to 8 weeks

    Municipal approvals, tender drawings and contractor selection, with transparent comparison of bids.

  5. 05

    Construction & handover

    8 to 14 months

    Weekly site reviews, quality checks and a final snagging list before you move in.
